AITA for telling my sister the truth about her fiance during her own bridal shower. I need to explain everything first. My sister Vanessa is marrying a man named Troy in six weeks. I never liked Troy but I kept quiet because I wanted her to be happy. Three months ago Troy added me on social media and I thought nothing of it. He started commenting on my posts constantly. Then he started sending messages asking if we could talk privately. I ignored most of them because I assumed he just wanted wedding advice about Vanessa. I was wrong. Two weeks ago Troy sent me a message that made my stomach drop. He said he had feelings for me since the day we met and he was not sure he could go through with the wedding. I blocked him immediately and sat with that information for days. I did not know what to do. Telling Vanessa felt like it would destroy her, but staying silent felt like a betrayal. I decided to collect proof before saying anything because I knew she would never believe me otherwise. I unblocked him just long enough to get him talking again. He sent more messages, even worse than before, and I screenshotted everything. Then I blocked him again and tried to figure out the right moment to tell her. The bridal shower happened last weekend. The whole family was there, aunts, cousins, Troy mother, everyone. Vanessa was glowing, opening gifts, laughing with her friends. I told myself I would wait until after the party to talk to her privately. Then Troy showed up unannounced, even though the shower was supposed to be women only. He walked in holding flowers for Vanessa, and the second I saw his face something snapped in me. I could not pretend anymore. I stood up in front of everyone and asked if I could say something. My hands were shaking but I pulled out my phone and read his messages out loud. The room went completely silent. Vanessa stood there frozen, looking at Troy, then looking at me, then back at Troy. His face turned white. He tried to say I was lying, that I made it up out of jealousy, but the screenshots had timestamps and his own profile picture right there. Vanessa grabbed her phone and started scrolling through his messages to her from the same week, comparing times. She found a match. He had messaged me the exact same night he told her he was working late. The aunts started whispering. Troy mother looked like she wanted to disappear into the floor. Vanessa did not scream or cry at first. She just walked over to him very calmly and took off her engagement ring. She placed it in his hand and told him to leave before she called security. He left without saying another word. After he walked out the shower turned into chaos. Some relatives thought I should have told her privately instead of humiliating her in front of everyone. Others said I had no choice since he showed up uninvited and I had to act fast before he charmed his way back into her good graces. Vanessa pulled me aside later that night. She hugged me so tightly I could barely breathe, but she also admitted she wished I had warned her weeks earlier instead of waiting for the perfect moment. She said those weeks I stayed silent were weeks she spent planning a future with a man who was chasing her own sister behind her back. I told her I was scared she would not believe me without proof, and that waiting felt like protecting her, not hurting her. She is not speaking to me much this week, she says she believes me completely but she needs time to process everything. My mother thinks I handled it horribly by making it public, my cousin thinks I am a hero for stopping the wedding before it happened. I keep replaying that moment over and over, wondering if there was a better way to do this. Now the wedding is canceled, the family is split into two camps, and Vanessa barely looks at me without crying. Did I destroy my sister trust by waiting too long, or did I save her from marrying a man who never respected either of us.
