Surprise trip exposed his double life

TIFU by planning a surprise anniversary trip and uncovering a secret that ended my marriage. My name does not matter for this story. What matters is what I found in Nevada. My husband Mark and I had been married for seven years. Things felt distant lately, so I thought a surprise trip would fix everything. I booked a cabin in Lake Tahoe. I told him we were going camping with friends. Really it was just going to be the two of us. I wanted to surprise him at his office first. I walked in holding two plane tickets and a stupid grin. His assistant looked at me like I had grown a second head. She said Mark left for a business trip that morning. I said that was impossible because he was supposed to meet me for lunch. She got quiet and suddenly very interested in her computer screen. I called him. He said he was stuck in traffic downtown. I could hear an airport boarding announcement in the background. My stomach dropped right there in that hallway. I did not confront him yet. I wanted proof first. I checked our shared credit card app on my phone. There was a hotel charge in Scottsdale Arizona from an hour ago. Mark hates Arizona. He always says the heat makes him miserable. I decided to actually go through with my trip, but alone. I booked a flight to Scottsdale instead of Tahoe. I told nobody except my sister, who begged me not to go. I landed four hours later with my heart pounding the entire flight. I found the hotel using the charge location. I walked into the lobby and asked for the room number under his name. The front desk clerk assumed I was his wife joining him for the anniversary he mentioned. Apparently he had told the staff it was our anniversary trip. I felt sick. He was celebrating our anniversary without me. I took the elevator up, hands shaking the whole ride. I knocked on the door and a woman answered wearing one of my old shirts. She looked confused, then horrified when she realized who I was. Mark appeared behind her in a bathrobe, face going white as paper. I asked him who she was. He stammered something about a coworker and a work emergency. The woman finally spoke and said her name was Jenna. She said she had been seeing Mark for eight months. She thought he was divorced. She showed me text messages where he called himself single. I nearly laughed at the absurdity of it all. My husband had built an entire fake identity for his affair. He told her his wife left him two years ago. He told her he worked in finance, not marketing. He even used a fake last name with her. I asked Jenna if she knew about our anniversary trip he mentioned downstairs. She said he told the staff it was their one year dating anniversary. He had been planning a vacation with his girlfriend on the same week I planned one for us. The dates were not even close to coincidental. I checked his phone while he scrambled for words. There were other names too. Apparently Jenna was not the only one. There was a woman named Priya in another city he visited monthly for conferences that never existed. I sat down on that hotel bed between two strangers who both loved the same lying man. Jenna started crying and apologizing to me like it was somehow her fault. I told her it was not her fault at all. We actually ended up talking in the hotel bar for two hours after Mark stormed out. We compared stories and found even more holes in his lies. Turns out he used money from our joint savings account to fund dates with both of us. He drained almost twelve thousand dollars without me noticing. I filed for divorce within the month. Jenna blocked him completely once she learned the full truth. I still think about how close I came to never finding out. If I had not shown up at his office that day, I would be in Tahoe pretending everything was fine. Instead I am rebuilding my life and oddly enough still texting Jenna sometimes. We bonded over betrayal in the strangest way possible. Was I wrong for staying to talk with the other woman instead of leaving immediately.
